The Element Cycle
Each piece of gear and each enemy in TokenLordsRPG has an element type: Fire 🔥, Air 💨, Earth 🌍, or Water 💧. Elements form a perfectly balanced rock-paper-scissors cycle where one element counters another:
🔥 Fire beats 🌍 Earth → +2 tier advantage
🌍 Earth beats 💧 Water → +2 tier advantage
💧 Water beats 💨 Air → +2 tier advantage
💨 Air beats 🔥 Fire → +2 tier advantage
Every element has exactly one element it counters (+2T advantage) and one that counters it (-2T disadvantage). The other two are neutral (0T modifier). No element is inherently stronger.
Gear Element Modifiers
In addition to the element cycle, gear itself carries passive modifiers:
- 🔥 Fire Gear: -2 tier penalty (passive, always active)
- 💧 Water Gear: +2 tier boost (passive, always active)
- 🌍 Earth Gear: Neutral (no modifier)
- 💨 Air Gear: Neutral (no modifier)
Important: The maximum bonus is +2T and minimum penalty is -2T. These do NOT stack — you apply the strongest single modifier only.

Board-Specific Strategy
Each board has a dominant enemy element. Prepare the right counter-gear:
- Board 1 (Earth enemies): Use Fire gear as primary counter (Fire beats Earth = +2T)
- Board 2 (Water enemies): Use Earth gear (Earth beats Water = +2T)
- Board 3 (Air enemies): Use Water gear — best matchup in the game (+2 cycle AND +2 gear boost, capped at +2)
- Board 4 (Fire enemies): Use Earth gear (Earth beats Fire = +2T)
Multi-Element Loadout Strategy
Build and maintain complete gear sets (weapon, armor, helmet, boots, ring, amulet) for multiple elements:
- Set 1 (Board 3): Full Water gear set for Air enemies
- Set 2 (Board 4): Full Earth gear set for Fire enemies
- Set 3 (Flex): Mixed Fire/Air pieces for early boards and super mobs
Before each fight, check the enemy element and swap to your best counter-gear. Against a T10 Air super mob with T8 Water gear, you achieve T10 effective power (+2T). The same T8 Fire gear would only perform as T6 effective (-2T). Element swapping is free and costs nothing but awareness.
